The Jewish Community in Kosice
Ackerman JakubThe presence of the Jewish community in the city of Košice left significant traces in the cultural and social, economic and everyday aspects of life. The coexistence of Jews and the local population in the city of Košice is relatively short.
It has been around since the middle of the 19th century. There are several important Jewish monuments in the city, many important personalities of Jewish origin worked in Košice. The peaceful coexistence was disturbed by the tragic period of the Holocaust during the Second World War. In the post-war period, there was an effort to rebuild the community life of Jews in Košice. However, it was not easy. The aim of this publication is to bring the reader closer to the importance and contribution of the Jewish community to the city of Košice and to connect the past with the present. Despite the tragic events of more than 75 years ago, the Jewish community still has its presence in the city of Košice.
