Roman Ondak / Event Horizon
Fuchs Rainer, Meschede Friedrich, Brown Katrina M.
Event Horizon is a sculptural installation with a processual component. The work consists of 100 wooden discs and 100 hooks to be attached to a wall.
The wooden discs are slices from an oak tree trunk and are exhibited aligned in a row. Each disk has one delineation of its growth rings contoured with ink. A name of a historical event, chosen by the artist (for example, the end of the First World War) is stamped next to it, joining the history of humanity with the development staged of the oak tree. As such, systems of recording time are juxtaposed. One disk is taken from the row each day of the exhibition and placed on a hook on the wall, shortening the symbolic tree trunk and adding the year dates to the calendar of a century.
